The whole idea of the “smart home” is so the family would have more time to do “family things”. But, many of the smart appliances still require significant human interaction. You would still have to go out to, or order in from, the supermarket to fill your smart refrigerator. You still have to take your dirty clothes from the hamper to your smart washer/dryer, and the clean clothes back to the dresser drawers. (Kids can take their own clean clothes to their dressers.) Though MS, Apple and Google are working separately to make a Star Trek type replicator, they’re still trying how you create something (like food) from atoms. 🙂
Home security, well that depends if you’re comfortable with the alarm company, and that their technology works (and is affordable).
I am always suspicious when they apply the word “smart” to an object. Until master artificial general intelligence is perfected (and heaven help us then! 😉 ), the only thing that’s smart is making money off people buying things that we think will make our lives easier. Needless to say, easier said then done. Thx for your thoughtful analysis!!!
